TOWN OF NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Made famous in the Discovery Channel show, "American Choppers," Orange County Choppers is now housed in a 92,000 square-foot building with offices, showrooms, workshop, machinery space and a production area to film the reality show. Orange County Choppers unveiled its new headquarters last week, showing off the $13 million facility’s green building features.
A whole building analysis was performed through the New York Energy $mart New Construction Program to identify energy efficiency opportunities. The New York Energy $mart Loan Fund program was used by the company, which earned it a 4 percent interest rate reducton of the $1.5 million loan for energy efficiency improvements.
The building will sport exterior glazing upgrades, daylight harvesting, variable air volume system, efficient rooftop HVAC equipment, efficient lighting and demand-based garage exhaust, among other features.
According to news reports, nearly 75 percent of the construction materials consisted of recycled building waste. It is designed to use about half as much energy as is required under the state’s building code.
