ATLANTA, Ga. -- The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has taken aim at improving energy efficiency in data centers and small warehousese and self-storage buildings. The trade group recently launched two guides to move those structures toward reduced energy consumption.

“High Density Data Center -- Case Studies and Best Practices” delves into the challenges presented by increased heat dissipation from growing datacom performance requirements. It costs $43 for ASHRAE members and $54 for non-members.

The book, which is part of the ASHRAE Datacom Series, examines noteworthy data centers, such as the National Center for Environmental Prediction, the Lawrence Livermore National Lab Data Center, HP Richardson Datacool Data Center and the NYC Financial Services Data Center.

ASHRAE’S Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small Warehouse and Self-Storage Buildings is geared toward providing best practices for architects, engineers, owners and contractors for buildings smaller than 50,000 sqaure feet.

“The Guide provides a clear, straightforward prescriptive path to meeting the 30 percent target savings,” Ron Jarnagin, chair of the committee that wrote the publication, said in a statement. “Recommendations are easy to apply, allowing contractors, consulting engineers, architects, and designers to easily achieve advanced levels of energy savings without having to resort to detailed calculations or analyses.”
