MORRIS, Ill. -- Kraft Foods has received its first Gold LEED-Commercial Interiors certification for a distribution center.

Kraft and ProLogis, a distribution facility manager and developer, worked on improvements to the 800,000 square foot center near Chicago. ProLogis completed the building in 2007 and Kraft leases it.

Together they worked on adding efficient HVAC system, fluorescent lighting and other improvements. During construction, almost all trash was sent to recycling centers instead of landfills, and about 80 percent of wood-based materials were from Forest Stewardship Council certified forests.

The building is Kraft's first LEED distribution facility and ProLogis' third. ProLogis has nine other facilities that have been submitted to receive LEED certification and 8.3 million square feet of facilities being designed or constructed with LEED certification in mind.
