GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) will offer an introductory course on green building and construction standards in its professional development series.
The Florida-based nonprofit is partnering with the Sustainable Facilities and Infrastructure Research Team of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg, Va., to create green training for crafts professionals.
The curriculum, called "Your Role in the Green Environment," will be available in a book and is the subject of a 15-hour introductory course that focuses on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
The publication, though one of many released through NCCER, is the organization's first green training book, according to Marketing Manager Kathy Staffa. "Everyone is very excited about this book and there's a lot of interest in it," she said.
The book and the class are designed to appeal to a range of workers in the construction crafts, from newcomers to seasoned professionals, who seek instruction on green building fundamentals, Staffa said.
The book will publish August 15 and information about NCCER's training series is available in its online training catalogue.
