The Key to Cracking the Tight Job Market: Expanding Green Skills, Knowledge

Published June 26, 2009

The "Experience" factor

I fit the demographic profile mentioned here very closely. I have been looking for work in Energy Efficiency / Sustainability for about a month. My experience has been:

  • Green Management jobs are out there.
  • They aren't always posted in standard places. You have to know where to look.
  • The big problem is not training, but EXPERIENCE.
All of the Energy Efficiency management level jobs I have seen, applied for and talked to people about, all want a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in the Energy Efficiency field.

So, for someone who wants to move from another sector - its the old catch - you need experience to get a job.
